It’s not easy to stand out from the crowd in Nashville. After all, the town is known worldwide as a Mecca for singers—many of them good, some of them very good and a select few in a category of artistic excellence all their own. Wendy Newcomer is one of the few.
Wendy Newcomer is an Americana/country singer-songwriter originally from Asheboro, North Carolina, now living in Nashville, Tennessee.
Wendy made her Grand Ole Opry debut in 2000. Wendy released her debut EP, “Raised On Promises,” in 2004. In 2006 she released her self-titled CD, “Wendy Newcomer” with original songs influenced by heroes including: Emmylou Harris; Loretta Lynn; Patty Loveless; Guy Clark and Tom Petty. In 2005, Newcomer was a semi-finalist in the ASCAP-sponsored International Songwriting Competition. In April 2008 she was a winner in the MerleFest Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. She’s currently a featured artist on AOL Music and OurStage.com.
In addition to performing on the stage of the hallowed Grand Ole Opry, a career highlight, Wendy has opened shows for Delbert McClinton, Gretchen Wilson, John Anderson, Johnny Paycheck, Lee Roy Parnell, Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and others.
With influences ranging from Karen Carpenter to Elvis Costello and the Rolling Stones, her wondrously versatile alto is as comfortable wailing on a Tom Petty rocker as on a bluegrass barn-burner, or softly caressing every ounce of heartfelt emotion from the gentle country waltzes Wendy loves so dearly. Need proof? Slide her new Wendy Newcomer CD into your player…and prepare to be entranced.
